According to a Washington Post database that tracks every person killed by a police officer since 2015, 23 percent of victims killed by police nationwide, some 1,500, were experiencing mental illness.
Research indicates that 10% of all police calls relate to mental health crises for which they are not usually trained!
This website is about police brutality against mentally ill people, and mistreatment of mentally ill people by the system generally. In order to raise public awareness, the site contains graphic depictions of violent encounters with law enforcement and mental health wards. Proceed only if you can handle it.
This website is a grassroots virtual community of mentally ill people, and our friends and families. We are not a site run by anybody with a medical degree. Therefore we do not give any medical advice. Our advice if you are in acute mental health crises is to get yourself to a mental crisis center near you, or at least call your doctor. Don't rely for your treatment on anything written here.
